The Original Pattern blanket is a present-day reissue of Chatham’s earliest wool blanket, first carrying the Chatham name in 1893. Made in New England from 100% pure wool, it retains the straightforward proportions, blue stripe, and classic napped finish that made the original useful far beyond the bedroom.

At 60 × 76 inches and 20.5 ounces, it has enough substance for cold evenings without becoming a bulky bed blanket. The napped surface gives the wool a soft, raised hand while preserving the rugged practicality that belongs to the design.

“I have always thought a proper wool blanket should be useful enough to leave the house. This is the sort I keep within reach for a cold evening, carry outside when supper moves to the porch, and take along when a picnic may last later than planned. Its beauty comes partly from never needing to be treated as precious.”
-Mrs. Mayfair

Care & Ownership

Traditional 100% wool blankets benefit from infrequent cleaning. Between cleanings, air the blanket in good circulation and use a soft-bristle garment brush along the nap to lift dust and restore the surface. Professional dry cleaning is the conservative recommendation for full cleaning, consistent with comparable traditional wool blankets from established American mills. Avoid hot water, agitation, tumble drying, and direct heat, which can shrink or felt wool. Store only when completely clean and dry.

Maker / Heritage

Chatham’s American woolen history reaches back to Alexander Chatham’s mill in 1877, with the first blanket specifically labeled a Chatham Blanket appearing in 1893. The revived maker continues that lineage through New England production, preserving the character of its original wool blanket in a current archival reissue.
